Digital Storm Precip data from the Des Moines, IA WSR-88D taken about 0450 hours. Note a number of Flash Flood Warnings in effect. Flood Warnings were going into effect on a number of creeks & streams in the Des Moines area due to the runoff as well.

Another round..

Looks like another round has come through the area with more storms possible this afternoon. Severe Thunderstorm watch remains in effect for the local area here until 4 PM CDT.

The Storm Prediction center has forecast a Moderate Risk for severe weather across much of Iowa today and also has issued Tornado Watch 334 for about the Western half of the state as well as parts of Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota. A Brief pause

Looks like we’ll receive a brief break in the wet weather before rain returns on Thursday. Area lakes & rivers are already running high with Saylorville currently forecast to crest on Friday at 868.11, however that is assuming no further rain over the Des Moines River watershed.

Tornado Watch 241

June 1st, 2010

Tornado Watch 241 has been issued for Western Iowa (generally any county along & west of Interstate 35) & Eastern Nebraska until 10 PM CDT. Should prove to be an interesting rest of the afternoon/evening. Radar image from Des Moines WSR-88D at 4:50 PM CDT
